PERFORMANCE IN THE PARK 2010

2010 marks the sixth season of Barton upon Humber’s free Performance in the Park season which this year features live children’s theatre and music.

The season gets under way on Sunday July 11 with Performance on the Edge outside Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre where youth steel band, Steel the Rhythm, will be playing a selection of popular classics, Calypso beats and tuneful melodies at 12 noon and 2pm.

The next three performances take place in Baysgarth Park.

On July 25 The Storytellers Theatre Company will be performing Peter Pan at 2pm in Baysgarth Park and will be telling the tale about the boy who didn't want to grow up. It will include adventures with Pirates, Indian Braves and the Lost Boys in Never Never Land. Look out for Captain Hook planning and scheming to get rid of the boy who doesn’t want to grow up and wonder if Wendy, Michael and John ever return to the Darling house in London. All will be revealed in this delightful adaptation of the Classic Tale.

On August 8 Hoodwick Theatre presents Leap of Faith, a celebration of the human aspiration to fly: paper wings, balloons, feathers, and flying monks feature in this elegant comedy with music and extraordinary visual effects. An uplifting show suitable for all ages.

Illyria Theatre Company make the first of two appearances at Performance in the Park on August 22 when Roald Dahl’s James and The Giant Peach is performed. Orphan James is sent to live with his two terrible aunts. But when the peach tree in the garden sprouts a single peach which grows and grows and grows, James befriends some very peculiar insects breaking free from the clutches of his aunts and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.

The season draws to a close on Sunday, September 5, with Illyria’s returning with a production of Jane Austen’s sparkling comedy Pride and Prejudice, which will be staged at Thornton Abbey courtesy of English Heritage.

Performed in the atmospheric grounds of the ruined abbey with kind permission of English Heritage, audiences are advised to bring along a chair, a picnic, a torch. Hot drinks will be on sale.

The Perfomance in the Park season is being supported this year by Barton Town Council, Arts Council England, North Lincolnshire Council and Barton Lions.

All performances start at 2pm apart from Performance at the Edge and all are free apart from the Thornton Abbey performance which starts at 6pm and where tickets cost £12 for adults and £8 for children. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment
